Jefferson Local Schools Appoints Tom Szendrey as the new Director of Student Services
West Jefferson, OH –Jefferson Local Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Szendrey as the district’s new Director of Student Services. A seasoned administrator with nearly three decades of experience in school leadership, fiscal management, and educational law, Mr. Szendrey brings a comprehensive background in student programming to the district.
Mr. Szendrey joins the district from Reynoldsburg City School District, where he has served as the Director of Secondary Education. Prior to Reynoldsburg, Mr. Szendrey was the Director of Analytics and Strategic Initiatives at Princeton City Schools. During his time in administrative roles, he has been instrumental in expanding programs for students at risk, providing curriculum support to English Learners, and supporting students with disabilities.
"I have dedicated my career to fostering academic excellence through strategic leadership and fiscal responsibility," said Mr. Szendrey. His extensive background includes serving as a Federal Programs Director, where he managed approximately $25 million in entitlement and COVID relief funds.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Szendrey has consistently elevated student programming for all students.
Professional Highlights and Expertise:
Fiscal Stewardship: Secured $3.9 million in grants over a two-year period and managed multi-million dollar federal entitlement programs.
Innovation in Support: Implemented the "Ranger Academy," an online program providing personalized learning with counseling support for at-risk students.
Community and Partnerships: Acted as a liaison with career technical schools and community colleges to expand student opportunities.
Mr. Szendrey holds a Juris Doctor from the Cleveland State University College of Law, as well as a Master of Science in Educational Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, both from the University of Dayton. His professional contributions also include serving as an Adjunct Instructor for Educational Administration and participating in the Ohio Department of Education’s OPES Rubric Writing Committee.
