Facilities and Transportation

Welcome to Jefferson Local Schools Operations and Transportation Services website.  The operations department is responsible for the physical operation of district owned property and grounds.  This includes the Central Office (“B” School), Fleet Operations Garage, High/Middle School Complex, Field House I, Field House II (ROC), and Norwood Elementary School.

The Facilities Operations is responsible for all custodial, maintenance, and grounds services within the district.  Our staff members work hard to keep the facilities looking great and safe for the daily use by students, staff, and visitors.

Facilities Operations is also responsible for all facility operations including boilers, chillers, electrical systems, plumbing systems, security and fire protection systems, kitchen equipment, energy usage, and elevator operations.  The department is also responsible for managing and overseeing the districts emergency operations plans.

Transportation Services is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation of district students.  The District operates ten 72-passenger school buses, three handicap school buses, one school van, and two grounds pickup trucks.  In 2025 the district purchased one new 72-passenger school bus which should be delivered and in service in the first quarter of 2025.  

On a daily basis, our fleet drivers provide transportation to approximately 600 students logging approximately 590 miles per day on nine routes as well as transporting students on extracurricular field trips.  In 2021, the department implemented the use of routing software to further increase efficiency in the student routing process and field trip management.

The district has nine regular fleet drivers and two substitute drivers.  We also employ a full time vehicle mechanic who performs all maintenance of district owned vehicles , ensuring safe and efficient operation.
