May 14, 2026 Update

The district has been working with roofing companies to develop a repair timeline. Norwood's roof will be removed and replaced. The goal is to have this work completed before school starts in August.

The High School gym roof has been approved to be replaced. Work on this replacement will start shortly.

The district is working with different flooring companies to assess the work needed. Once we receive approval from the insurance company, work will begin on the wood floor.

A thermographic scan was completed on the MS/HS Roof. This information will be used with the insurance company to determine the extent of the repairs.

Roof Repairs & Building Safety - Updated 5/11/2026

During a severe storm earlier this March, Norwood Elementary and the middle/high school experienced water intrusion after a significant amount of rain fell in a short period of time. While this impacted multiple areas of both buildings, our team responded immediately with cleanup and assessment. Since then, the district has continued to closely monitor conditions, implement safety measures, and move forward with both short-term management and long-term repairs.

Current Status
Safety remains our top priority. Buildings are safe, and conditions are being monitored closely each day.

What We Are Doing Now

• The district is actively monitoring building conditions throughout the day.

• The director of facilities checks each building early every morning for any overnight water impact.

• Additional precautions are in place, including increased supervision, clear signage, and immediate response to any leaks.

• If conditions were ever to change and a building is not safe, school would be closed and families would be notified by 6 a.m.

Repair Progress

• Norwood: Approved for a full roof replacement through insurance, along with necessary classroom repairs. The goal is to complete this work this summer. Norwood Roof replacement will start the week of May 25th. Updated 5/19/2026

• Middle/High School Complex: Partial repairs have been approved. The district is continuing to work with the insurance provider to seek approval for additional areas. Phinney Roofing has started work on the HS Gym Roof. Updated 5/19/2026
