The teams competed at the Northeastern Invitational tonight for the first time since they completed their track facility remodel. On the night the team had an impressive 13 personal records set for themselves! There were 14 teams and the boys placed 9th while the girls placed 11th overall. Highlights from the night include Ethan Roberts (Fr) becoming only the third person since 2011 to break 5 minutes in the 1600 with an impressive freshman time of 4:57.45. Ella Hostetler placed 3rd to medal in the high jump with a height of 4’10. Leanna Kovalchik (Sr) ran a hard fought 3200m and finished in 13:23 just 4 seconds short of her own school record. Lastly, the boys 4×400 team capped us off for the night in exciting fashion. The 4×400 team consisting of Will Workman (So), Sam Messer (Jr), Sam Peters (So), and Santino Carnevale (Jr) did it again as they obliterated their previous personal best by 6 seconds to run a 3:38.46 and finish 3rd place overall. This new time eclipses last year’s 4×400 team and places them second all-time in school history!
The team will be competing again on Monday and Thursday next week for the OHC championships prelims and finals. These will both be held at West-Liberty Salem, and we hope to see everyone out to cheer this great group of athletes on.
