Permanent Improvement Levy

Permanent Improvement Funding for Jefferson Local Schools

Jefferson Local Schools is currently in a stable financial position, but an important source of funding that supports facility and infrastructure needs is set to expire at the end of December. Without renewal or replacement, those funds will no longer be available.

The district is exploring the possibility of placing a Permanent Improvement levy on the November ballot to address this need.

What is Permanent Improvement?

A Permanent Improvement levy provides dedicated funding for maintaining and improving school buildings, grounds, and other district assets.

What can these funds be used for?

By law, Permanent Improvement funds are restricted and cannot be used for day-to-day operating expenses such as salaries, instruction, or classroom programming. Instead, these funds are used for needs such as building repairs, major systems like roofs and HVAC, safety and security upgrades, transportation purchases, and other long-term facility improvements.

Why does this matter?

School facilities require ongoing maintenance and investment. Addressing these needs helps protect community assets, avoid more costly repairs in the future, and ensure safe, reliable learning environments for students and staff.

Jefferson Local Schools remains committed to maintaining safe, functional, and well-maintained facilities for students and staff. The district will continue to share updates as discussions move forward to keep the community informed.
