Transportation Update 08/28/20
2020 – 2021 Jefferson Local Schools Transportation Update
Updated 08/28/2020

Updated Procedures Due to COVID-19

The Madison County Public Health Department has issued requirements and considerations for school transportation, which include the following:

  1. Encourage parents to individually transport their children/household to school and avoid carpooling.
  2. No more than 2 students per seat on a school bus.
  3. Cloth facial coverings are required for staff and students on a bus.
  4. Make every effort to mix as much outside air into the bus while working to maintain a reasonably comfortable interior environment.
  5. Open bus windows as much as possible while transporting students.

Being transparent as possible with parents and guardians, if a student on a school vehicle tests positive for COVID-19, the student(s) within 6 feet of that student will be quarantined for 14 days per the guidelines set by Madison County Public Health.   We strongly urge parents to transport their students to school if possible to avoid contact tracing.

Buses will regularly be sanitized after the morning and afternoon routes and after any athletic trips.

Several Changes for the upcoming 2020 – 2021 school year include:

  1. No bus passes will be issued for any reason.
  2. Students will be allowed a maximum of two drop off and pick up locations.
  3. Children’s Express & The Ranch Apartments are now designated as walking zones for Norwood.
  4. Students are to load the school bus from the back to the front.
  5. Students are to unload the school bus from the front to the back.
